Our Open Spaces Need.png

Our connection to nature is more vital than ever, and with your support we can preserve open spaces for generations to come.

Our parks, trails, and open spaces are facing a funding crisis and we need your immediate action. Recent federal funding cuts are putting essential programs at risk across the United States. The Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is working hard to address the impact of these cuts through education, preservation, and the sustainability of our parks, trails, and open spaces. Without your support, we risk devastating consequences for our environment.

Since January 2025, more than 3,000 government employees have been laid off - employees who are essential to implementing the protection measures for our open spaces. In addition to these lay-offs, over $210 million was cut from the National Park Service’s budget, and $1.7 billion in grants from the Environmental Protection Agency were eliminated. Federal funding cuts are just part of the issue. Despite the critical importance of environmental programs, only 3% of total charitable donations in the United States go to environmental organizations, according to the latest Giving USA report.

This is deeply concerning. It is more important than ever to conserve as many parks, trails, and open spaces as possible, including those in Washoe County. We need your donation to meet the growing demands of maintaining and improving the Truckee Meadows.

  • $125: would provide 75 students with a Jr. Naturalist Program session in a local park

  • $75: could help restore 50 feet of eroded trail

  • $250: helps revegetate 1 acre of the Rosewood Nature Study Area

  • $550: can provide supplies for 1 week of outdoor summer camp

Your donation is ensuring our parks, trails and open spaces are protected, our environmental education programs continue to their fullest, and our community has access to vital green spaces both humans and wildlife depend on.
